Thankful Thursday ~ Week 16

19 Jul

Today I am thankful for:

  • Rain. Yes, we actually got much needed rain today.
  • Too Close to Home is now available for pre-order from both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. When you pre-order a book, it magically appears on your Kindle/Nook on release day. I like to say it’s a gift you give your future self! 🙂
  • Dinner with my family. My family and I went out to dinner. As my children get older, it’s harder and harder to get everyone together. I am so grateful they still want to hang with Mom and Dad.

What are you thankful for this rainy afternoon?

Cheers,

Alison Stone

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 15

12 Jul

Today I am thankful for:

  • Reliving childhood memories. How often do we have a chance to go back into time? Well, technically never. However, I took my kids to an amusement park that I frequented as a child. I have vivid memories of riding this very ride ~ the Pirate Ship. Who remembers that one?
  • Sunscreen. I can’t count the number of times I got fried as a kid. I am so grateful today’s sunscreen is so much more effective than the goopy stuff my mom used to slather on me. Since it never worked, she had to then spray me with Solarcaine burn relief. Ah, those were the days.
  • Fried dough. Yum!

What are you thankful for today?

By the way, my second book, Too Close to Home, comes out in 26 days. It is available now on Amazon for preorder. 🙂

Cheers,

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 14

5 Jul

Today I am thankful for:

  • Trip to NYC. My two youngest and I spent a long weekend visiting my brother and his family in Brooklyn. We hit the American Girl Doll Store, Coney Island, the aquarium, the merry-g0-round at DUMBO, IKEA, the water park at Red Hook, and the Natural Museum. We really packed it in. I can’t thank my brother and his family enough for being our tour guides. We even had a new adventure taking Amtrak from home into NYC. I highly recommend it!
  • Cover Art for Too Close to Home. I’m totally thrilled with the cover art for my August 7th release, Too Close to Home. Here’s the tagline for my latest romantic suspense: They say you can never go home. If you do, better watch your back.
  • Lazy Days of Summer. Enough said, right?

What are you thankful for today?

Cheers,

Alison Stone

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 13

28 Jun

It’s Thankful Thursday! Today I am thankful for:

  • Fabulous writer friends. My latest manuscript has made its way into their hands. I am grateful for their time and talents. I grow as a writer every time I get their feedback on one of my projects.
  • Suits. Okay, I love finding new TV series. I discovered Suits on USA last summer and devoured all the episodes OnDemand. The new season just started. If you like a fun, smart, legal drama, Suits is for you. And the actors aren’t hard on the eyes, either. 🙂 Oh, and did I mention that it’s on Thursday nights? Boo-yah!
  • Exciting Summer Plans. Summer is a wonderful change of pace. I’m planning a few adventures with my kids, I’ll be sure to report back. Enjoy your summer.

What are you thankful for?

Cheers,

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 12

21 Jun
  • School’s Out for Summer. Well, mostly. The youngest still has one more half day. But no more lunches to make. No more exams. It’s time for fun in the sun. And today is 90 degrees and time for a dip in the pool.
  • Banana Splits for dinner. A mom with a dying child turns the tragedy into a reminder for all parents: Create a memory for your children. Click here to read more about it.
  • Nik Wallenda did it! I was the biggest naysayer. I thought it was a waste of local news time to cover the upcoming Wallenda tightrope walk across Niagara Falls. And believe me, they covered it above and beyond. But when the time came last Friday night, my entire family was mesmerized by the TV footage. This man is incredibly calm. Have you seen the photos? Check it out. My knees get wobbly just thinking about it.

What are you grateful for this fine summer day?

Cheers,

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 11

14 Jun

Today I am thankful for:

  • Sunsets. I found this gorgeous sunset the other night outside my front door.
  • Sugar Lip Treatment. I must have lip balm on at all times. It’s one of my quirks. 🙂  The other day, I stopped by Sephora and they gave me Sugar Lip Treatment as a special gift. It is fantastic. It even comes in different shades. Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make me happy.
  • You are not special commencement speech. Take a few minutes to listen to this English teacher’s thought-provoking speech. I believe he has taken some flack for it, but I do believe he has some good points. Of course our children are our most prized possession, but they must realize they are not “special” just because we say they are. “Climb the (mountain) not to plant your flag but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see  you.”

What are you thankful for?

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 10

7 Jun

This week I’m thankful for:

  • My oldest son’s confirmation. I got tears in my eyes as I watched him–a young man–stand next to the altar where he had been baptized 16 years ago. I can still seem him in his little white shorts and booties. Where does time go? I know he didn’t always want to go to religious instruction over the years, but I hope he always remembers the importance of a sound moral compass as he grows into adulthood.
  • Kristen Lamb’s Blog. It’s a wealth of information for writers. One of my recent favorite posts is Learning to Drop the Donkey ~ Is Perfectionism Killing Your Career. She’s has a fun sense of humor and some great tips. And boy, do I need to stop being a perfectionist!
  • Luscious, by Amanda UsenI’m always grateful for a good book. My good friend has done it again with her follow up to Scrumptious! The positive reviews are rolling in:  “Readers will really empathize with Usen’s heroine, who is on the verge of letting her past ruin her future. The emotion in the novel is palpable and will draw readers in. 4 Stars” – RT Book Reviews. I just pre-ordered my copy! You can pre-order yours, too.

What are you thankful for?

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 9

31 May

Being grateful reminds us to focus on what’s important. Today I am grateful for:

  • ImageCool spring mornings. I just got back from a wonderful walk. The temperature was in the low 60s and once I got walking, it didn’t even feel cool. As much as I claim I dislike our long winters, we have the greatest summers. Well, it’s not quite summer yet, but I’ll take a cool morning walk over a dripping humid walk any day.
  • My iPhone. Lest you think I’m worshiping Apple, I’m not. On my walk, I finished listening to Steve Jobs Biography. Yes, all 25 hours of it. It was fascinating. I am grateful that through his leadership Apple created innovative products that have shaped various industries (think music, for example) and changed the way we use technology. I hope this encourages the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs to think outside the box. I have a teenage son who is fascinated with technology. I hope he finds his passion. Then he can support his writer mom in her old age. 🙂
  • Writer friends. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love my writer friends. They cheer me on. They support my efforts. And they tell me when my synopsis has gone off the rails.

Have a great Thursday. What are you thankful for?

Cheers,

Alison Stone

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 8

24 May

Today I am thankful for:

  • Writing on the back patio. Enough said.
  • Butterflies. Today I volunteered in my daughter’s classroom. They headed outside to release the butterflies they watched morph from caterpillars. I loved seeing the kids watch in awe as the butterflies took flight. Educational and fun.
  • Writer friends. Today two friends have hosted me on their blogs:

Stop by and say “hi” on Rachel Kall’s Blog. I’m talking about my writing process and my August release, Too Close to Home. Thank you, Rachel!

I am also on The World of 7 Evil Dwarves. The title of the blog is worth a visit alone. They cleaned up the swamp for me. I’m talking about why I write and I share an e-mail that I’ve kept in my inbox for 3 years. Thanks to Jami Gray for setting me up!

What are you thankful for today?

Cheers,

Alison Stone

Thankful Thursday ~ Week 6

10 May

Today I am thankful for:

  • My teenage son and weed wackers. My son discovered he enjoys power tools. I enjoy a well-kept yard. Score! I’d post a photo of him trimming around the trees, but I fear he’d never do yard work again. Don’t worry, he also wore safety glasses and jeans.
  • My DVR. I’ve been trying to cut back on my TV habits, but when I noticed Twitter comments about the season finale of Castle, I got curious. I checked my OnDemand listings and was happy to find Castle. And yes, the season finale was as good as my Twitter friends promised.
  • A clean house. I am so much more productive in other things when I have a clean house. It’s just a bummer that I have to clean it. 🙂

What are you thankful for?

Cheers,

Alison
